Doing The Things You Thought You Couldn’t Do

All of us at one time or another had something which we thought at the time, was beyond us. It could have been something as simple as driving a car or speaking a foreign language. At the time we couldn’t see ourselves doing that activity.

And when we looked at the people who were actually doing these things, for example our parents or others, we admired them. They looked so accomplished, doing that activity, which looked so complicated to you.

Today many of us are doing those very same things. And you know what, it doesn’t feel like any big deal. Why? Because we have gotten used to it, we mastered it.

However, today we all are faced with new challenges, and when we see others who have already mastered those particular challenges we admire them. But we shouldn’t admire them, we should rather be inspired by them and learn from them.

We must remember that there was a time when we couldn’t do certain and how we overcame those particular challenges. The problem with us human beings is that we forget our successes and remember the failures. Somehow we think that, perhaps because the situation is different, we cannot apply the same principles that helped us overcome earlier challenges.

We also seem to think that a different set of principles apply for small things then, say for big things, which isn’t true. It’s just that for big things it may take a bit longer, because of your unbelief but the same principles still apply.

The difference lies in the way we look at and see things.

When we see things as a challenge we lose the awe and the fear we hold for it. Do you know why you overcame earlier difficulties? Because you saw it as a challenge. An opportunity to be taken and you took it.

The situation itself doesn’t change at all. The only thing that changes is one’s perception of a situation, which makes it seem doable. And because it “becomes” doable we go ahead and do it.

So-called difficulties lose their power over us when we look at it differently. Instead it is us who become the one’s wielding the power, because it’s up to us when and how we are going to conquer the situation.

Seneca sums it up well when he says, “It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.”

Life with all of its challenges allow us to grow and become bigger and stronger. When we cower in fear, we remain where we are and the way we are. We never grow, we never discover what could have been. Where we could have gone, what we could have done.

When I look at my life right now, I can hardly believe what I see. The things I’m doing right now, seemed unthinkable just three years ago. I’ve had so many people compliment me on my work and thank me for what I did for them. But all of that would not have been possible had I not changed my focus and confronted my situation.

As Henry Ford said, “One of the greatest discoveries that a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.” And all it takes is to change one’s focus. To allow yourself to see what you can be.

Is that too hard? I would think not, for if it were I wouldn’t have been able to do it, neither would the thousands of others.

Does Sedona Method Really Work?

The Sedona method claims it is a really simple way to help you to improve your life. But does the Sedona method really work?

Well, as with everything else in life, the answer is yes and no. If you let the Sedona method work for you, the answer is a resounding “Yes”. If you fight against it and refuse to do the very simple exercises involved, then the answer won’t be as positive.

But then, what would be the point in going as far as purchasing the Sedona method and then fighting it? That would be daft.

Especially when it’s so simple.

If you can ask yourself three simple questions, then you can carry out the process involved in the Sedona method.

You can ask the questions out loud (providing no-one nearby will think you’re just going crazy) or in your head.

First, you should identify the feeling that you most want to deal with. It could be anything. I’d suggest starting with something small first, such as that annoying advert you’ve just watched.

Then just ask yourself the three simple questions identified in the Sedona method.

Remember, there are no right or wrong answers. If you want to hold onto the feeling of being annoyed for the next decade, that’s fine. It might seem increasingly silly as you go through the questions again. But it’s an OK answer!

Repeating this on a number of occasions, you’ll find your feeling start to disappear. Maybe not on the first or second question round. But after, say, five or ten repetitions you’ll start to question why the problem ever bugged you in the first place.

It really is that simple. And it really works!

Make using the Sedona method part of your daily routine, a bit like cleaning your teeth, and you’ll start to notice a change for the better in your life.

Doctors Doing Hypnotherapy

In my opinion, doctors do not necessarily make the best hypnotherapists. Their credentials or reputation as physicians have nothing to do with their rating as hypnotherapists. In my opinion, those who are successful at hypnotherapy, it really has little to do with their position as a doctor.

Like any other profession, as experts, we specialize, and we cultivate and develop our expertise in a given area. The same is true of doctors and other professionals in whatever specialty, be it psychology, family medicine, or any other practice.

There is certainly the potential for crossover, and medical practitioners have traditionally used hypnosis as part of their treatment, but only to varying degrees of success. Typically, as a professional or specialist in any given area, you will achieve more success in your area of specialty.

If I had started out as a medical physician, a PhD, I doubt that I would have the same success at hypnotherapy as I do have, and have had for so many years, as it wouldn’t be my main or primary area of practice. I’ve nurtured and cultivated my talent, and grown as a hypnotherapist, and I’ve learned from doing. I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t work. I’ve tried different approaches, I’ve witnessed different results. And I’ve devoted my entire career to it as a specialty. It’s not just something I do in my spare time. It’s part of my life.

Most medical doctors start out with an excellent knowledge of the physical human body. Of this there is no doubt. They also have unlimited knowledge and resources at their disposal. The study is limitless and ongoing. However, much of the methodology is theory based. The real difference is that hypnotherapy is about doing, not theorizing.

I have seen doctors apply hypnotherapy as part of their practice and with great success. Their excellent knowledge of people and their conditions served as an advantage in applying hypnotherapy successfully. Although for most their primary area is not hypnotherapy, even though they venture over from time to time, they won’t really cultivate that skill as a specialty.

I know of some hypnotherapists who have obtained doctorates, and without the years of study which it should take to be able to call yourself a doctor. I don’t know why they feel the need to buy this title. Perhaps it is just an ego thing. Although I’m sure it also helps them get more clients as the general public has a high level of trust for doctors.

Don’t get me wrong. We’d be in a lot of trouble without doctors. They do wonderful work. However in hypnotherapy a PhD is irrelevant. I don’t believe being a doctor would make me a better hypnotherapist. In fact I know it wouldn’t. I’m not putting down the study of modern medicine and the qualifications of medical practitioners; I’m saying that it won’t necessarily make you a successful hypnotherapist. Hypnosis is all about the doing!
