Music's In My Soul (Ch. 27)
Chapter 27-The RecitalI waited in anticipation as every act before me was called. I just so happened to be the last act. It made me feel awful, because the students that had intimidated me before intimidated me even more now. Even though every single student gave me a smile after they performed (in Nick's, Joe's, and Anna's cases, a hug) I still felt really worried.When my name was finally announced, I slowly made my way onto the stage. Never had I seen so many people in one sitting. I scanned the crowd for my parents and found them towards the front. They smiled at me, and I smiled back.I sat down on my stool and pulled the microphone to my mouth. Then I began to play the solo part of "In My Life". The backup band came in right on time, allowing me to sing:"There are places I'll remember, in my life, though some have changed. Some forever not for better, some have gone, and some remain. All these places have their moments, with lovers and friends, I still can recall. I know I'll often stop and think about them, in my life, I've loved them all."I proceeded to play and sing the entire song, my confidence gaining with every chord. I smiled to my fellow band members, and they smiled back. When I finished my song, I took off my guitar and bowed to the roaring crowd.I quickly walked off stage and into Nicks arms. (He had been waiting for me backstage.) I was crying, and so was he. "Sarah, you're amazing," he said. "Truly amazing. And I'm proud to call myself your boyfriend."I smiled at him and he smiled back. He stroked my hair and kissed me sweetly. Then I set my guitar down, we took hands, and went to our seats.There were several minutes of waiting while the judges tallied our scores. This was the most nerve-racking part. I held Nick's hand on one side, and Anna's hand on the other. Finally, when the judges came up on stage, I felt like I was going to throw up with anxiety."Well, this was a very tough decision, and we're not just saying that," said the female judge."This group is probably the most outstanding group weve seen in a very long time," said the older male judge."Although you were all equally spectacular, you all know that we can only award this scholarship to one of you," said the younger male judge."I bet you're dying to know who this person is," said the female judge.All the students nodded and shouted appropriately."So, we hereby announce, the winner, of the 2011 California music scholarship is..."Comment, rate, subscribe, SHARE!Also check out these series:"One Step at a Time"-Jamarocker"We'll Face it Together"-disneychick09
