JMDMT #1464 Microfossils of Cyanobacteria in Carbonaceous Meteorites
The James M. DuPont Meteorite Collection - material formed before parent body accretion and may even be presolar. The variation in composition between meteorites can be explained by either mild metamorphism resulting in condensation/graphitization reactions that drove off the least stable material and/or aqueous alteration leading to hydrolysis, isotopic exchange and even organic synthesis. This explanation is consistent with the observed correlation between the degree of alkylation of PAHs and petrologic type [3]. References: [1] Robert F. and Epstein S. (1982) GCA, 46, 81-95.
