Sylvia Smith and Rep. Tom DavisPress Conference 1:38pmWashington, DC TOPIC: voter suppressionTRANSCRIPT: MS. SMITH: In districts like the one I cover, which is held by a Republican, I would think that a strategy of the NRCC would be to try to keep those new voters who might be voting for Obama from in fact continuing on down the ballot. Does the NRCC or the Republican Party have any strategy for trying to ensure that that happens?REP. DAVIS: Well you're talking about voter suppression and we would never, ever -- (laughter) -- do anything along that line for the record. I think it's fair to say, yeah, I think it's fair to say we're not going to spend any money educating them on what they need to do but that's what you do in these kind of elections. By the way, you'll also see in some of these areas, particularly in some of the rural areas, you're going to see a huge vote come out in presidential years in North Carolina and states like that, this is tradition that would be voting Republican across the board. I'm just saying in terms of vulnerability of our congressional candidates, you've got to look at these high African American voter urban style districts and recognize that it's not business as usual as a candidate, that you're going to deal with an electorate that is significantly different from what you see in off years. And I just think that's the fact.LABEL: SS TD CSPAN 10-10 13.39 (SD#228) Y

You're wrong about Obama, but that's neither here nor there. You need to work on your reading comprehension. What I said was, "We The People WILL address the sleazy voter suppression tactics..."

for the record?off the record for sureThe Republicans will stop at nothing to steal this election. Democracy in America is dead.

Yep, that's exactly right. The only fraud going on at ACORN is the defrauding of their organization by the employees who filled out false voter registrations - ACORN was defrauded for their money, and no vote fraud occurred. If readers don't understand this, they haven't done their homework. Actually, they haven't read beyond the GOP/Fox talking points, let alone taken a moment to see the obvious lack of logic in the GOP's accusation.

ACORN has nothing to do with voter suppression or vote fraud.ACORN had some employees who falsified some voter registration forms, which ACORN themselves brought to the attention of the athorities. That is all.

Mr. Davis is my Congressional Rep, he is out the door though. He's pushed a lot of garbage in Congress - the framework for a REAL ID databaseHe surprisingly was the primary sponsor of the bill to give D.C. a Congressional Rep though. We haven't had a good dem candidate run against him, and he is a centerist, but this is disgusting.Adios Davis

get real. Voter suppression is documented over the last century and in the past 3 elections in particular (by the GOP.)It's not a dark secret, its public knowledge, and although it is 'legal' in most instances, it is obviously unethical and disgusting.Davis' made a sarcastic comment about it, and the crowd laughed.. why? because its common knowledge that the GOP curbs turnout by suppression. I live right outside D.C. and Davis is my Rep.Everyone knows voter suppression is the GOP's game.
